How we handle and protect your data.

Who we are
Venezuelan Signal is a humanitarian platform responding to the June 24, 2026 earthquake. Data steward: to be named (preview).
We process the least data possible, for the least time, for one purpose: reunite families, direct aid, keep people connected. We never sell or share data commercially.
Surveillance context
Venezuela is under heavy state surveillance and censorship. We design every feature assuming a hostile actor may read the data. If a feature can't be built privately, we don't build it.
What we process
Missing person/pet reports: name, age, description, last-seen area, and optionally the reporter's private contact.
"I need help" (SOS) requests: help type, number of people, details, and — only if you allow it — location.
"I'm safe": an optional broadcast with your name and an approximate area.
Connectivity requests from verified centers: center details and a contact.
We use no tracking cookies, ad SDKs, or third-party trackers.
Location: how we protect it
Location is opt-in and explained before we ask. We never track in the background.
On public views, location is reduced to a grid cell (~5km) and an approximate area. Precise coordinates are never shown publicly.
Precise coordinates, when you share them, are marked "verified responders only" and are not retained as history or a trail.
Retention & deletion
Reports auto-expire (default 60 days, PFIF standard) and are deleted.
You can delete or mark any report resolved/found with one tap; this recalls/expires the record everywhere reachable.
Who it's shared with
Precise SOS coordinates reach only verified responders, to act on the emergency.
If you choose to syndicate a case to other registries (e.g. Person Finder/PFIF), it's shared only with your per-destination consent and an exposure warning.
We do not share data with advertisers or unauthorized third parties.
Security
Encryption in transit (HTTPS/HSTS) and at rest. Strict Content Security Policy, no third-party origins. Rate limiting and input validation against abuse. Precise-data access controlled by role.
Children
Millions of children are in the affected areas. Reports about minors are accepted only for reunification; deletion and expiry apply as to any record.
Your rights
You may access, correct, or delete your data. For reports with an id, deletion is immediate from the record itself. For other requests, contact the data steward.
